چکیده

There were errors published in Development 143, 4474-4485. In Figs 1A-D and 2A,B,H,I,J, the +/+ labels should have been +/–. Owing to production errors, the wrong images were included as Figs 2B′, 3B,B′ and 5C′. The online version of the article has been corrected accordingly. These changes have no impact on the results or the conclusions of the study. We apologise to the authors and readers for this mistake.

Neural specificity of the RNA-binding protein Elav is achieved by post-transcriptional repression in non-neural tissues.

Drosophila Elav is the founding member of the conserved family of Hu RNA-binding proteins (RBPs), which play crucial and diverse roles in post-transcriptional regulation. Elav has long served as the canonical neuronal marker. Surprisingly, although Elav has a well-characterized neural cis-regulatory module, we find endogenous Elav is also ubiquitously transcribed and post-transcriptionally repr...

A role for the ELAV RNA-binding proteins in neural stem cells: stabilization of Msi1 mRNA.

Post-transcriptional regulation exerted by neural-specific RNA-binding proteins plays a pivotal role in the development and maintenance of the nervous system. Neural ELAV proteins are key inducers of neuronal differentiation through the stabilization and/or translational enhancement of target transcripts bearing the AU-rich elements (AREs), whereas Musashi-1 maintains the stem cell proliferatio...

Mammalian homologs of Drosophila ELAV localized to a neuronal subset can bind in vitro to the 3' UTR of mRNA encoding the Id transcriptional repressor.

Mammalian cDNAs encoding a rat (Rel-N1) and a human (Hel-N1) neuronal RNA-binding protein have been cloned and characterized with respect to tissue specificity, neuroanatomical localization, and RNA binding specificity. Both proteins are highly similar to the product of the Drosophila elav gene, which is expressed in all neurons of the fly and is required for development of the nervous system. ...

The insulator protein Suppressor of Hairy-wing is an essential transcriptional repressor in the Drosophila ovary.

Suppressor of Hairy-wing [Su(Hw)] is a DNA-binding factor required for gypsy insulator function and female germline development in Drosophila. The insulator function of the gypsy retrotransposon depends on Su(Hw) binding to clustered Su(Hw) binding sites (SBSs) and recruitment of the insulator proteins Centrosomal Protein 190 kD (CP190) and Modifier of mdg4 67.2 kD (Mod67.2). By contrast, the S...

New transcriptional roles for the classic Drosophila insulator protein Suppressor of Hairy-wing

The Drosophila Su(Hw) protein is a multi-zinc finger DNA binding factor required for the gypsy insulator function. At the gypsy element, Su(Hw) recruits partners Centrosomal Protein of 190 kD (CP190) and Modifier of mdg4 67.2 kD isoform (Mod67.2), which are required for the enhancer blocking and barrier functions of the insulator. Our genome-wide studies have identified thousands of endogenous ...
